Library Media Services

The Southern Elementary Media Center Mission

To support and enhance curriculum and instruction at every grade level, to equip students with the skills they need to become proficient information users, and to help students establish the foundation necessary to become college and career ready.

Library Hours:

The Media Center is open 7:00am-2:00pm on school days.

Classes visit the library bi-weekly for Media classes, but can check out books at other days and times as allowed in their daily schedule.

Circulation Policies: 

  • Kindergarten: 1 print book at a time, 5 ebooks at a time
  • 1st-5th Grade: 2 print books at a time (3 print books if no overdue materials) 5 ebooks at a time
  • Students may check out additional print books when working on special projects.
  • Parents/Guardians: 5 print books at a time, 5 ebooks at a time (Must sign up in the Media Center for an account)

Loan Periods:

14 days

Students may renew their books for an additional 7 days at a time through Destiny Discover (located in Clever) if they need more time.

Ms. Sarah Chrisman

Ms. Chrisman graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English. After college, she began teaching for Lexington City Schools and came to Southern Elementary in 2007. She has taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade as a classroom teacher. In 2010, she started her position as the media specialist for Southern and earned her Master of Library and Information Studies degree from UNCG in 2014.

In her time outside of school, Ms. Chrisman enjoys being outdoors, camping, hiking, running, mountain and road biking, yoga, and strength training. And of course, READING!!
